Time Well Spent

It is amazing it all came o an end and i feel very sad about it though i was very stressed through out the program because of the load of responsibilities that i had including succeeding in this program as i am working, raising my three children while their father is away an going to school but it is all worth it. I came out from this program an improved individual one that looks at the world now from a different lens and that is due to the learning experience this program has offered me, the program taught me to become a better communicator, self observer, relationship builder, a diversity advocate, and most important a child advocate.

I find my self now more excited about education, and more alert to the issues that concern education, I am eggar to become an educator hoping that i will offer students the best of what i have learned from the program. I become so motivated after the program that i have applied to my second masters degree in special education i think I am now more driven to become a changing force in the field than i when i have started the program.

My long term goal is to become the teacher that respects, cares, understands, communicates, and embraces their student. My goal is to become the educator that learns from their student and teaches their students , to be the teacher I  as a student wished for one that provide students with love , caring, encouragement, believing in the students ability , nonjudgmental a teacher that leaves no stone turned for the sack of their students. Though some of you might say is that all possible with all the responsibilities we have as educators and individuals in society, my  answer is yes because if we understand that as educators  we are the first and most influential first step in any child’s learning and developing experience after parents and that our roll as educators  surpasses the academics part of learning  I am positive that our educational system and students  achievement will improve greatly .

It has been a great pleasure and honer to go through this program with all my fellow classmates and professors they all added greatly to me personally and academically i wish all of you the best on the paths you chose to take and hope hat we might one day cross paths in the future job well done fro every one may you all be blessed with peace, love and happiness.

I found a quote that i really liked and addresses my passion towards education by Ralph Emerson ” The secret in education lies in  respect the student” .”The man or women who can make things easy is the educator”.

” Education is a shared communication between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectation” Bob Beauprez.

” Education is preparation for life education is life itself” John Dewey.

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

For this weeks assignment i chose the fallowing organization as they interested me the most :

  • save the children.
  • UNESCO.
  • UNICEF.

Save our children organization was established in 1919 to fight for childrens right in the USA ad internationally their main mission is to offer children the opportunity of a healthy life, opportunities to learn, and offer protection . The organization is active in more than 120 countries from the USA, Africa, Latina america, Asia, and the middle east providing health, education ,disaster relief, and protraction to children.

In the field of education save our children organization provides training for teachers , support fro families and community, and provide volunteers to help children with their academic work after school . The organization has reached more than 35,000 children in the early childhood education in the united states plus help 150 children in literacy programs, in addition they offer a child protection program that helps children who are abused, neglected, or are in war zones. The organization offers the public opportunists to help children through sponsoring a child, fundraisers, run or race, or becoming a strategic partner . i was really interest in a volunteer position in the organization in the child protraction programmer as it is very important fro me as a parent and an educator to provide children with a safe, healthy, caring, environment therefore this is the only position would be interested to be in this organization.

UNESCO  is an international organization that was founded in 1945 in Paris France interested with 50 field offices around the world, UNESCO works for promoting  an open dialog between cultures and and civilization through respect and shared values to achieve mutual respect, human rights, and alleviation from poverty therefore the main goal of UNESCO is to ” to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. The focus of the organization is to  promote quality education, mobilizing science, addressing social and ethical challenges, cultural diversity, and building inclusive societies through information and knowledge with a main focus in Africa and gender equality.

UNESCO offers multiple positions in ranging from professional staff, young professionals, to internships  all positions that i would be interested in but unfortunately will not be qualify to apply as in the professional position in education there is a minimum experience need of two or three years which i do not have in the young professionals position has an age limit of 32 years old and i am older mean while the internship is relocating the applicant and that is impossible fro me as i am a mother of three young children but i could do a volunteer position if possible.

UNICEF was created in the after math of world was two in 1946 to provide children with food, clothing , and health care and its work has continued. UNICEF  is a permanent member of the united nation and is present in 190 countries  advocating fro children. UNICEF partners with governmental institutes, cooperate sector , civil organizations, and national committees. Both UNICEF and UNESCO share the same concern in education, child survival and protraction, humanitarian action, and gender equality.

Resources

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

I believe that working for a  federal and national agency is great in accomplish many of the goals any agent of social change. One of the agencies that i chose is Us department of health and human services section of child welfare information getaway and their mission”Child Welfare Information Gateway promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.” Additionally they provide access to electronic websites, electronic publications, websites, databases, and online learning tools for improving child welfare practice, including resources that can be shared with families. The agency offers a wide range of   Job opportunities  in the us department of health and human services such as administration for  families and child each job opportunity has it own requirements but the cite offers a general job qualification which is applicable to me as i would be able to apply:

  • reliability and dependability.
  • ability to follow simple directions.
  • ability to work safely.
  • possession of some degree of dexterity.
  • ability to do strenuous work

My second choice is our local Bergen county human services division of office of child as their mission is to provide children with affordable quality  child care programs and professional development opportunities and technical assistance for the child care community which one of the important goal f early childhood deduction version.they also offer another program fro children called NJ kids grow which is designed to create universal standards of quality for all early care and education programs throughout New Jersey. Unfortunately there was no job opening available that was in my filed of interest but i believe that working for the child care office is a great opportunity to help families and children in having a quality affordable child care is a great experience.

The third choice is UNICEF they believe that All children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfill their potential to the benefit of a better world they work with children and adolescent understanding the globe concern fro children they work with governments, cooperates, the public sector , and they work from three office branches the head quarters where global policy on children is shaped. Specialized offices include the Supply Division, based in Copenhagen, which provides such essential items as the majority of  life-saving vaccine doses for children in developing countries. The second the regional office it helps in  guiding  work and provide technical assistance to country offices as needed UNICEF’s work is fully part of other United Nations activities in a country. Third office is the national committee were these on-governmental organizations promote children’s rights, raise funds, sell UNICEF greeting cards and products, create key corporate and civil society partnerships, and provide other invaluable support. The committees raise a third of UNICEF’s resources.

UNICEF offers multiple job opportunities in different countries as a team members on job that interested me was a child protection officer (violence prevention) skills needed  in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting technical program information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and formulation of the Child Protection Program within the Country Program, which might require from me to become families with these regulation and procedures other than that i most likely would be able to apply fro this position.

Another job opportunity  is Social Policy and Finance officer  for Children will address actions related to political advocacy and technical assistance with political actors and state officials nationwide and at sub-national levels (regional and local), as well as civil society organizations, to generate information and evidence about the public budget allocated to children and adolescents. This task will include actions for promoting the use of information and decision making to prioritize the allocation of public resources to children and adolescents, making it more efficient in order to help reduce inequities. both job opportunity are most likely very in my interest and i would be able have the job requirement.

Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

This assignment was very interesting fro me as i did not think of these organization as community of practice but as we go on with the course i see how they are exactly that i chose my local head start organization which is called the great Bergen community action head start as they are primarily interest din infants, toddlers, and child focused programs that involves families and local community to provide children with services that include their family. the job personalities that i was interested in the site were early child hood teacher position and a substitute position but unfortunate i could not apply as i am missing a qualification of CDC certification which i actually did not know about since an fairly new in the field of education and have no idea on how to proceed in my qualification as i am taking the alternative rout of education but i researched the certificate and i am hoping that i will be able to work towards getting it.

The second organization is a nation wide one it is UNICEF USA an organization that has multiple interest in the world that includes child care, education , and heath i enjoyed going through the different pages of the cite and ended to join for notification and a news letter as a future educator and i especially loved the teach UNICEF page as it provides teacher with different types of information on child development, and health. The job opportunities in UNICEF are vast but most of them do not correspond with my qualification as their require management or financial degrees on the other hand they offer great internship opportunities which is something i would most likely look in too.

My lats chose is Zero to three a great organization that is interested also about childrens well being and development very informative and provide many articles that help in early childhood education , the job opportunities offers are in other educational institutions but they all require me to be a certified teacher which i am not yet but hopefully after this MA program i will start to get ready to obtain the certification.I chose these three organizations because they also deal wit my capstone challenge which has to do with diversity and anti bias issues.

reflecting on learnning

I found that  anti bias information education to be a wholesome educational process as it dose provide children with knowledge to be and skills to face different life situation as it helps children to develop a healthy seance of social and self identity, be aware of fairness and justice and the likelihood that the child will grow up to be a positive building force in society  and it would be a great scene of achievement to fee that i could be a part of this. My hopes is that with my knowledge and skills i will be able to empower these children to become just, fair, intelligent, and productive members of society.

I like to thank  all my class mates for all their productive responses and fro sharing their experience which in turn enriched my knowledge since some of them are already in the education field i wish all of you the best hope to see you in the next course.

Impacts on Early Emotional Development the Syrian criss

For this blog assignment i chose to go to the middle east region as it is my mother country and i wanted to discusses the Syrian crises as an example of how war and crises affects the emotional development of children under war. It has been always a sensitive emotional processes for me to talk about any child going through any type of damage that will affect their emotional and physical developmental what has been going on in Syria for the last five years or so has been a devastating situation fro all Syrian children.

The UNICEF has been trying to provide support to most of these children but the war left millions of children homeless, uneducated , and with no chance of getting and care or services wither it was ECE or higher school education the UNICEF found that ” families interviewed in areas where conflict is the heaviest, 98 per cent reported signs of profound psychological and emotional distress in their children.35 Young children are more likely to have nightmares, wet their beds or regress in their normal development. Older children, particularly adolescents, share their younger siblings’ fear and loneliness, but they are more likely to experience frustration, anger and shame.36 Loss of dignity was a common theme for young people, whose lives have been turned upside down. Boys were particularly vulnerable, and almost half as likely to admit difficult feelings to friends and family.37 One in five teenagers surveyed inside Syria reported such high frustration at their family circumstances” (http://childrenofsyria.info/).

Instead of enrolling in preschool programs or having joyful and  happy of early school years  Syrian children  recall booms, death, losing parents, school and their country it is heat breaking to read, listen, and watch what the Syrian child is going through for more than five years as a mother of three children i wish that i could be the mother of all the Syrian children. There are” Two million children without regular access to aid • More than 200,000 children living under siege • 2.4 million children forced to flee to neighboring countries • Children recruited to fight from as young as seven years of age Four year-old Khaled was resting in his bedroom ” (http://childrenofsyria.info/). This is a heart breaking number and what is the world doing to stop it nothing. Though I am not qualified to draw a conclusion on the emotional state these children might be in i can speculate that they must be suffering from emotional distress, depression , anxiety and many other emotional issues which any child should not be experiencing but unfortunately this is the reality of the Syrian child .

The Sexualization of Early Childhood

It is very difficult for me as a parent to actually think that my nine years old might be subjected to sexual ideas behaviors at such an early age i do agree with Dr. Liven that sexuality is something natural to all humans but it should be experienced at the right time and by the right person. Children are going to be always curious about sex and sexuality it is human nature but it is the role of parents and educators to provide an age appropriate information on the topic though this is great it is challenged with all the media and the toy market that provide children with ideas about what is prity and how it makes people happy or what is considered sexy or not , the other day i had my first experience with this topic and i was very confused in how to handle it my nine year old son came and told me that what does it mean to be sexy  i asked him why he said that one of the boys who is in the football team was talking to one of the cheerleaders and she told him that one of the other cheerleaders is going to make him a banner i guess that is a thing i do not know much about football nor heartrending any ways the boy answered the girl is that cheerleader sexy , i was was so surprised he is nine what does he know about sexy  i have always though yes tat this age they are interested in sexual information it is natural normal but to actually go after the criteria of sexy at nine no a big no in my opinion .

Children are being subjected to many influence that might influence their sexuality like ids shows that discuses dating, looks, wight, dressing  to make boys and girls look attractive to each other and ultimately make them interested in each other  and make them happy . Another example is music lyrics that are accompanied with music videos  done by teen and young children that include sexual content or subliminal massages on what is sexy like what is worn in the video or the words of the song . another influence can be some of the toys that are available in the market fro both girls and boys, peer influence were the children feel pressure for their friends to look, act , and wear certain cloth to be be attractive and ultimately happy with them self.

As a parent of children from both genders I am worried about what my children are subjected to from the media or the outside word so i try my best to eliminate any influence that might not be age appropriate whether is was from the television shows that they are not allowed to watch, i also try an not introduce pop music to my children only age appropriate songs though i know that their friends parents are not as proactive as i am which might influence my children but the most important factor in this equation in my opinion is having a very trust worthy relationship with your child so they can back to the parent and share concern’s , experiences, and inquiries it will differently help the children develop in an age appropriate environment.

The role of an educator is the same as the parent it is as important therefor educators must be have the skills and ability to handle any situation and also be able to provide the child with the correct age appropriate information on sexuality as it is a normal developing milestone in any child growth experience therefore having a healthy positive understanding of sexuality will help children develop a healthy self image and confidence that will reflect on their adult hood relationships in my opinion .

Evaluating impacts

In the case that i would personally experiencing any sort of ism as an early childhood educator it would effect me emotionally but since i already have experience before hand with such situation being a female immigrant from a middle eastern background equips me with an advantage . this advantage is the ability to  disconnect between my ability to perform my job as an educator and to the isms i am experience as it is important not to transfer these feeling to the children since it might affect their understanding and interaction with me as their educator.

though i know it is some what hard to actually separate between the feeling and emotions of isms and carrying them to ones work i believe it is possible as i know many individuals that do for example my brother who is a psychiatrist for the United States veterans  experienced a first hand prejudice from one  his patient when the patient new that he was an Arab Muslim he told him that he heats all Arabs and Muslims and does not wants to be treated by him  my brother handled it is a very positive manner and made the patient understand that it was his right and that it is not a problem and he continues to work with many veterans that do openly inform him that they do not like Arabs but as a doctor he can not mix his personal feeling with the well being of his patents and i believe if i would be put in the same situation i would react in the same manner since we both already have experience in situations of ism toward us.
